This is a call for proposals for presenters at the HGPS one-day conference on “Diversity Within Diversity,” to be held Friday, October 19, 2018, at the Council for Recovery. Sandra Lopez, LCSW, ACSW, will be our keynote speaker. We are looking for proposals from potential leaders for breakout sessions.
Sandra Lopez’s two-part Ethics presentation will examine the contemporary views of culture in all of its different forms and will explore a paradigm for appreciating cultural diversity and integrating cultural humility in the clinical practice area.
Alternating with Ms. Lopez’s talk, we will break into smaller groups (2-90 minute sessions/one in the morning and one in the afternoon) each with a theme that ties into the topic of diversity. Please consider how your sessions will be relevant to our theme and to practicing group psychotherapy. Breakout sessions must include both didactic and experiential components. HGPS is committed to quality continuing education in group psychotherapy and group dynamics. Therefore, preference will be given to candidates with group therapy experience, CGP credentials, and/or who have participated in an AGPA Institute group. (AGPA will hold its annual meeting in Houston – February 26-March 3, 2018.) Co-leader pairs are encouraged to apply, but each must complete and submit a proposal. Also note, if you are part of Faculty, you will be required to participate in a formal consultation before the conference begins and during lunch.
Presenting provides a great opportunity for professional growth and visibility. In addition, presenters can network, connect, and hopefully join our HGPS community!
PLEASE NOTE — THERE ARE TWO SECTIONS TO THE CALL FOR PROPOSALS FORM:
Section 1: Personal and Demographic Information
Section 2: Presentation Details
Sections are divided into parts, lettered A-J with instructions given for each part. Examples of what is being requested are given for some sections. When answering those questions, please construct your responses in the same manner as the examples. It is important that you fill out each part in its entirety. Doing so will decrease the possibility that we will need to contact you later for revision.
