Using Family of Origin Buttons in Group Work
presented by Crystal Collier, PhD, LPC-S

for our first Brown Bag Luncheon of the year

When: Friday, July 12, 2019
Time: 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Location: Council on Recovery – Auditorium* (please note new location)
303 Jackson Hill St, Houston, TX 77007

Learning Objectives:
Participants will learn a how unhealthy family and cultural systems produce deep cognitive, affective, and spiritual wounds.
Participants will learn how to map these wounds into a graphic called Family of Origin (FOO) buttons.
Participants will learn how to utilize FOO Button maps in a group setting to create healthy, more adaptive thoughts, feelings, and actions among group members.

Overview: Trauma bonds with critical/abusive parents can create a lifetime of negative core beliefs, intense shame, and maladaptive coping mechanisms. Mapping when these events occurred to understand what specific maladaptive thoughts, feelings, and behaviors were created offers a window into their origin and sheds light on the path of healing. Utilizing this technique in group can assist in the development of new, more adaptive methods of communicating with others.
